Old funeral home to make way for new stores

A PLACE THAT’S HELPED PEOPLE DEAL WITH DEATH IS NOW GIVING A NEIGHBORHOOD NEW LIFE. RIGHT NOW AT 5-30…JORDAN BURGESS IS LIVE WITH WHAT WILL SOON TAKE THE PLACE OF AN OLD FUNERAL HOME. 3 RIGHT NOW WE’RE STILL WORKING ON FINDING OUT ALL THE STORES THAT WILL BE THERE. BUT I’M TOLD IT WILL BE RETAIL SPACE…AND ACCORDING TO OUR PARTNERS AT THE DAYTON BUSINESS JOURNAL INCLUDE A SAXBY’S COFFEE. ALTHOUGH FIRST BUILDERS HAD TO SAY GOODBYE TO THE OLD HOME THAT HAD HELPED MANY THROUGH SOME HARD TIMES. TEAR DOWN NOISE THE LAST FUNERAL HELD AT THIS ROUTSONG PROPERTY WAS FOR THE HOME ITSELF. BUT FEW SHED ANY TEARS. IT WAS DEFINITELY TIME FOR THE BUILDING TO COME DOWN. IT WAS HURTING THE VALUE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD. WORKERS SPENT THE DAY DISMANTLING THE OLD ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME AT OAKWOOD AND IRVING AVENUES. THE PLACE THAT ALSO DOUBLED AS THE FAMILY’S HOME HAS BEEN EMPTY FOR ABOUT THE LAST SEVEN YEARS SINCE ROUTSONG OPENED MORE MODERN FUNERAL HOMES. THIS WAS AN OLD HOUSE THAT WAS ADDED ON TO. TAKING ITS PLACE WILL BE A MORE THAN 8100 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING THAT WE’RE TOLD WILL BE OCCUPIED BY ABOUT 4 DIFFERENT STORES..INCLUDING A SAXBY’S COFFEE. IT’S DEFINITELY STUFF THE NEIGHBORS WILL BE HAPPY ABOUT. I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE A GOOD USE FOR THE CORNER. ALTHOUGH SOME NEIGHBORS HAVE EXPRESSED CONCERN IN THE PAST. THE PROJECT TOOK MORE THAN 4 YEARS TO GET UNDERWAY. WE ASKED THE BUILDER J-Z COMPANIES IF THEY THOUGHT THE NEW STORES WOULD BE ABLE TO DRAW IN CUSTOMERS. DEFINITELY THE MARKET CAN SUPPORT IT. IT’S A THRIVING AREA. I’M TOLD J-Z COMPANIES HOPES TO HAVE THE NEW BUILDING UP BY THE END OF THE YEAR WITH THE STORES OPENING IN LATE DECEMBER OR EARLY JANUARY. REPORTING LIVE..JORDAN BURGESS. 2NEWS.
