Rockledge woman charged in theft of antique fire truck


W POLICE TRACKED DOWN THE SUSPECT. DAN THE FIRE TRUCK SITS OUT NEAR : THE STREET FOR ALL TO SEE. AND POLICE SAY WHEN STEPHANIE CARDER-GALLON SAW IT LAST YEAR, SHE AND A FRIEND DECIDED THEY WANTED IT.>>THIS WAS A CLASSIC CASE OF A CRIME OF OPPORTUNITY. THEY SAW IT THERE, DIDN’T THINK ANYTHING TO HAVE IT TOWED. DAN POLICE SAY THEY SIMPLY : CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT PICKED UP. WITNESSES ASSUMED THE TOW WAS LEGITIMATE, WATCHED IT GO. OWNER CHARLES FISCHER COULDN’T BELIEVE IT WHEN HE FOUND OUT.>>IT IS A LITTLE DISHEARTENING THAT SOMEBODY CAN IMPERSONATE YOU AS AN OWNER, CALL A TOW COMPANY SIGN A PIECE OF PAPER , AND RECEIVE CASH, AND THERE GOES YOUR VEHICLE. DAN FISCHER HAD BOUGHT THE : CLASSIC 1956 TRUCK FOR 6500 DOLLARS. IT IS NOT AN GREAT SHAPE, BUT STILL HAS ITS CLASSIC LOOKS YARD IT IS GOOD ENOUGH TO USE FOR PARADES AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS. POLICE PUT OUT A PHOTO OF THE TRUCK, AND IT WAS RAPIDLY SPOTTED FOR SALE IN AN ORANGE COUNTY SALVAGE YARD. IT WAS TOWED BACK TO FISCHER, BUT IT TOOK 10 MONTHS TO PUT THE CASE TOGETHER TO ARREST CARDER -GALLON WHO WAS LOCKED UP THIS , WEEK. POLICE SAY SHE AND HER ACCOMPLICE GOT $300 FOR THE TRUCK. THEY HAVE NOT SAID WHETHER THE ACCOMPLICE WAS ARRESTED. CARDER-GALLON IS CHARGED WITH DEALING IN STOLEN PROPERTY AND
