Shady Things About The Cast Of American Pickers

American Pickers has managed to carve its
own niche in The History Channel’s line-up, thanks in large part to the chemistry between
stars Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz. Every week, millions tune in to watch Wolfe
and Fritz travel the country in search of hidden gems. It’s a wholesome, All-American program with
more than 250 episodes and counting in the can … so it’s high time someone explored
its shady side! Here are some of the shadier things about
American Pickers… “I came to Earth approximately 333 years ago. From the planet Zambodia.” …and its hosts. Broken promise The stars of American Pickers seem like honest
guys who follow through on handshake deals and always offer a good price. “If you’re at $175, I’m at $300.” “Yeah, I’m no mathematician, but that sounds
like that’s a good direction to go.” “Yeah, bust the abacus out! Alright, let’s do it.” But tell that to auctioneer Jerry Bruce, who
sued the show after it allegedly failed to hold up its end of a contract. Bruce saw a polarimeter, a device used in
the 1800s to measure the sugar content in alcohol, in a 2010 episode of American Pickers. He contacted Fritz to buy the device and claims
the famous Picker agreed to sell it to him for $300 plus shipping. Fritz reportedly sent a confirmation via text
message but never followed through with the sale. Bruce sued Fritz for breach of contract — and
was awarded $1,000, plus $80 in court costs, because Fritz failed to show up to court,
or even respond to the lawsuit, according to The Greenville News. Picked up by the law Gentle jokester Frank Fritz probably wasn’t
laughing when he was arrested in July 2017, after Iowa State Police responded to numerous
911 calls about a silver pickup truck driven by Fritz that was headed the wrong way down
Interstate 80. According to WQAD the police report
indicated that “[Fritz] had slurred speech and admitted to
drinking a beer and taking a dosage of Xanax.” Fritz failed a field sobriety test. The picker reportedly reached a plea deal
that required one year of unsupervised probation, a $625 fine, and a mandatory substance abuse
evaluation program. Concealed crowd American Pickers does a really good job of
presenting Fritz and Wolfe as a couple of regular joes just doing their jobs — nothing
glamorous. Their low-key attitude makes it easy to forget
that the show has millions of fans. How could these reality TV celebrities roll
through the country with no fuss? Well, the truth is that they often don’t. Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s The Gazette reports that
crowds of 300 to 400 people showing up to catch a glimpse of them filming and picking
is a common occurrence. But there’s no trace of all those adoring
fans in the final televised product all the better to keep their downhome image intact. Van switcheroo The producers of American Pickers go out of
their way to depict Fritz and Wolfe as buddies who happily spend hours together on the open
road, filling their custom van with antiques. In 2010, Fritz explained, “We have our cellphones and our gas. That’s our only overhead out on the road.” But there’s actually a lot more going on that
you don’t see on TV, During an appearance at the FRY Fest in Coralville,
Iowa, Fritz reportedly explained that the show’s huge crew travels with a fleet of vehicles,
including a large U-Haul truck, multiple vans, and a motorhome. Fritz noted that after you see the guys load
an antique into that branded white van, they often take it right back out and put it into
a larger U-Haul truck once the cameras have stopped rolling. It’s a subtle bit of stagecraft to help keep
up the appearance of a small-scale operation. Practice makes perfect Like most reality TV, some shots in American
Pickers are staged and rehearsed to achieve a clean, easy-to-follow half-hour of antiques-based
entertainment. According to Rob Dinkins, a South Carolina-based
auctioneer, scenes in his episode were re-created in order for camera crews to get perfect,
TV-worthy shots. Dinkins discussed these “filming tricks” with
the South Carolina Radio Network. “You go from one room to the next, you have
to do that, like three times. They’ve got to film you leaving the room,
then they’ve got to film you coming into the room.” All-in-all, filming the Pickers’ visit to
his old ice manufacturing plant took about 14 hours, but you’d never know it watching
the final product. The real pickers Wolfe and Fritz don’t always find their treasures
through traditional means, like flea markets, thrift shops and antique stores. Instead, they often uncover hidden gems in
more unconventional locales, like abandoned warehouses or closed-down Cracker Barrels. You may wonder how Wolfe and Fritz manage
to find these low-key goldmines, but it turns out they have a lot of help. The real American Pickers are the show’s production
staff. According to Ken Young, whose shop Ken’s Toys
was featured on the show, locations are scouted by producers in advance of filming. If they find a place that looks promising,
they don’t send out Wolfe and Fritz. Instead, they send a representative who looks
around and decides if there’s anything worth buying. Young told the San Angelo Standard-Times there
was a “three-week lead” before the stars of the show actually arrived, and filming took
about 10 hours. Sounds like being a pro picker isn’t nearly
as easy as they make it look. “I just got knocked in the head!” Thanks for watching! Click the Nicki Swift icon to subscribe to

  1. They come across as the dumbest fools I've ever seen , Mike " I think your a bit light , I'll pay you ten times what you're asking " dope !!

  2. I've been picking antiques well before this show came on! Now you have to explain to every person who has watched this show, that every GI Joe is not worth 300 dollars or every sign is not worth 500 dollars! Pickers know exactly what I'm talking about! I do watch though, it's nice ENTERTAINMENT!

  3. its Hollywood, of course its not a one take show. and why bring their personal problems in. its just that. THEIR PERSONAL PROBLEMS.

  4. Not shady, just regular guys. I met Rob a couple years back and purchased a rare bike from him. The bike was under priced and he had many people offer him more after we made a deal. He's a man of his word and followed through with no hesitations. Rob and a communicate all the time and even though he's extremely busy, he responds within minutes if not seconds.

  5. We were featured on an episode of American Pickers several years ago, and I have to completely disagree with Nicki Swift. Our episode was not staged or rehersed, and was shot completely live in a single afternoon. There may have been one single retake of a tiny scene when my wife stumbled on an answer, but that was the only time that any correction occurred. We found both Mke & Frank to be professional and very easy to work with. They were genuinely interested in our collection of stuff, even though we were not anxious to sell much, and they made very fair and reasonable offers on everything that they were interested in. They NEVER "low-balled" us or insulted us with ridiculous offers and when we did agree to sell anything, they paid immediately and were extremely professional. We had a wonderful time with both of them, both on camera and off, and Mike was even kind enough to share some other leads with us on things that we were interested in. They have since called us several times for on-air opinions or evaluations of items in our field and we have always had a great relationship with them. We have never seen them attempt to take advantage of anyone, young or old, and we have a great deal of respect for both of them.

  6. I solid Frank an old pedal car for $280 and never got paid in full because the bank was closed at the time and he only had half the money handy, I said no problem
He was going to etransfer me the rest but I’ve never received it , that was six months ago
I’ve since spoken to him on the phone and he said to not worry as he had been busy and was going to send the balance out to me by Etransfer…I still haven’t received it and he’s not returning my calls,
Any suggestions on what on should do??

  7. Yeah ! It's a TV show,, You can't count on hope & luck.. Non of these "REALITY" shows are real… & if you believe they are then you should find a new hobby. But it's a good show,,

  8. Offering a fair price? Who are you kidding? These guys rip everyone off with their low-ball offers. Yes I know a person has to make a profit in the buy and sell business, but these guys are outright crooks

  9. 🇬🇧 I’m from the Uk & my family love American pickers, it’s no surprise the production team do a lot of the work, it’s a tv show & a team effort. Great show & long may it continue!

  10. All of the reality tv shows are fake as a lead balloon and not worth watching you tube much better watch what you want when you want something the show producers seem not to know tv is for lame old people !

  11. Obviously filming is a lot more involved than just following them around with a camera, and I've often wondered where they slept and bathed when on the road, so there would have to be extra vehicles involved. however, this is an entertainment show and the end result is a wonderful adventure into the past. When I watch it I feel almost as if I am out on the road with them discovering all the antique gems and rummaging through all the rubbish to find the good stuff. As far as the FEW bits of dirt that have been dug up about Frank, bless him, I think that they are pretty regular guys, and let's face it, who doesn't have a few skeletons in their closet? I absolutely love this show and I could watch it all day long. SWEET PICKING you two.

  12. I was at their store in Nashville, very disappointing…now I am even more disappointed that everything is so fake…

  13. WTF A reality show with made up staged scenes in it, next your be saying the krapdasians isn't all real and every other reality show isn't real ???. People truly do believe these programs, Even the ones where they even say it at the beginning of the show that 'Some scenes are staged'. The fact is nowadays people believe it because it's all they see. anyone can say i'm talking BS but the truth is that if you show a weak mind a lie, and keep on showing them a lie, even while telling them it's a lie, their subconscious still is effected and influenced, and they of course know that, like all media companies, advertising companies, hollywood, governments, politicians all know that. Not only can you pollute the truth with a bit of doubt and make it look like a lie, but you can also make the not true look real by adding just a bit of real.

  14. Script it, fake it, film it multiple times. I don't care! My family and I love this show and will keep watching as long as it airs…..

  15. Take it easy on thee guys. There is not really anything here. If you are looking for crap look into CNN with its millionaire puppet activist socialist actors posing as "journalists".

  16. walk in to their store & tell 'em yer a picker…THEY WILL LAUGH IN YER FACE….seems only they can get deals, not give them

  17. your video sucks ..like they dont do their homework who cares at least we learn history from the guys and the people and who never had a tear in their eye when the bought that big cloth poster yrs ago payed got it appraised found out it was worth thousands and they turned around and went back to give the old guy more money

  18. So Mike and Frank are just lying sorry assholes! I'll "NEVER" "EVER" watch again! No wonder they almost got shot while visiting East Tennessee!

  19. Mike & Frank, The only thing for sale in their Iowa Store are Hats, Mugs, T Shirts, Nothing More !!!

  20. So what! This is a entertainment show we get to see wonderful finds and places! I don't give a damn on how this is done 'let's sit back and enjoy! Why should I care if they have a big uhaul to place the items on later. Do you think that we think they drove all the way to only one location for only 5 items then drive all the way home. I don't think any of us care. This is a crazy thought if you think by this extra truck that it makes them fake! I don't care if people gather to see them but they never show them! It's their show we are only the viewers!

  21. The funniest mistake I saw 'Wolfe' make was pay ten dollars for a little spelter statue of a hook-nosed gentleman in a tophat leaning against a lampost. 19th Century. Neither he nor the seller realized it was the Duke of Wellington of Waterloo fame. It still wasn't valuable, but, about $100? In England double that. It's very fake and superficial-pickers are hated like vermin especially in South Africa and Australia where they're likely to be met with rifles. They want the lowest price and will exploit any weakness and tend to network over widows, orphans and the elderly. Pickers are normally not as selective as these two either and will come back at night, lights off, having left one of those dollar-shop solar light 'flowers' to show them where they saw something good. In England farmers network against them, warning they're about, calling them 'gypsies'.In South Africa they even take boulders of granite to sell to the kitchen design industry for polished work-tops.Which then get thrown in the dumpster after ten years when the housewife wants a new kitchen. This show gilds the lily. In the same way the show about making deadly blades in a forge is stupid. People idolize the machetes and just buy cheap ones off the shelf.

  22. The only connection between reality TV and actual reality, is that they use the word Reality in the title.
What amazes me is, that some people STILL think this crap is real.

  23. Nothing new. Just a boring reality TV show. Damn, I want the old History Channel back. I would rather watch ww2 docs than this shit everyday, all day.

  24. One thing that pisses me off about this program is the fact that both Mike and Frank have said five dollars is going to make me or break me and then will argue about it for ten minutes! Then if they can't buy something for half of what they think they'll make they will fuss about it until the seller gives in! Another thing they do is try buying for a package deal. That package deal is still screwing the seller! They don't like it when the seller wants what they are going to sell it for! The sellers should realize that if these two clowns can find a buyer if they advertise they will find buyers who will be willing to give them the same amount as they give Mike and Frank!

  25. Bottem line, they are fake as fuck. They always pull the "you want 100 for it? Well I think it's worth more ill give u 125!!!" even though they sell the item for a few THOUSAND!

  26. OMG! Maybe they even wear make-up!!! Maybe their van is like Doctor Who's Police Telephone Box? Of course they have a production crew. Duh!

  27. Fat F G T fritz .. always rippin ppl off with that cringe smile on his fat face… sad ppl like this are successful and not the people they pick

  28. These seem like obvious & frivolous points. Of course they have a crew. Its a TV show. Of course they have other trucks. They buy tonnage & have multiple shops. They’d never get anywhere using the one truck. Of course they have scouts. They’d blow all their money, time on gas & travel if they didn’t.

The personal stuff is just that & has nothing to do w/ the show.

This is no different than assuming all these house flip shows are being built and redesigned by the hosts. You think chip and johanna gaines are actually doing the work? They’re just shooting scenes of them working for the appearance. As soon as they’re done shooting, a crew comes in and does all the work.

  29. Shrimp, fat, no personality, beer guzzling Fritz adds nothing to the show. It's all Wolf Fritz needs to go and add Danille to the road pair. She is more savy than fritz.

  30. It's just a TV show. If you like you watch it. None of the other stuff has any real affect on viewers lives…….well, unless you're some wacko who has to try and dig up dirt.

  31. I am burnt out on American Pickers- It's on the "American Pickers" channel- I don't think I'll be back watching it ……ever. Sorry—Same thing with Pawn Stars on the American Pickers channel. Fried.

  32. Mike wolf carrys frank fritz in the show absolutely like wolf but never really liked frank he gives off a shadey dodgy vibe just waiting to rip people off another dodgy thing he does he calls it bundle what a real tight wad he won't pay the asking price so always comes out with the bundle scam just so as he doesn't have to pay the asking price so bundles items together and pays the original price the person wanted for the one item but adds items to a pile can't believe he gets away with it seen that mikes face when he first started doing it even he looked like he couldn't believe frank was getting away with it later on in the series Mike started doing it now and again actually think he calls it the frank teackneek but frank dose it in every episode practically definitely something not right about frank lol its like the good cop bad cop teckneeck frank is a slime ball weirdo creepy guy always has been lol😂😂 and wouldn't be surprised at all if that Mike was sleeping with that danniell she used to be pretty hot aparently she once had her own antique shop but it failed that's when Mike took her on definitely think something is going on between the pair of them 🤔🤔

  33. So you know nothing about this show and you scrape the barrel with sketchy info which just goes to show that the cast have pretty ordinary honest lives. Why bother to make this irrelevant video ?

  34. I'm sure it's a good show, it's hard to find it here in Sweden but I would really like to see it. But can you seriously be surprised over some of these "revelations"? A person driving under any form of drugs is an asshole, and assholes aren't reliable. So a broken deal comes as no surprise. A production team is necessary even for really small shows, it's silly to believe anything else. But they should at least search and find objects by themselves.

  35. Frank announced as close friends of Epstein and also a business partner in upto 200 childcare centres which is being investigated cause frank is a convicted pedophile since 1987 and is believed to have over 500 victims possibly many more tho , police report says frank fritz had 37 children locked in a secret basement when they raided his New York mansion in 2001

  36. I cannot stand Frank he is 1 fat greedy man who steals anyting he can from the people he buys from always talkin about bundling Frank is the fake of the show that Mike needs to get rid of he makes the show bad a big fat greedy small ball head that needs to be picked off the show instead of on the show a bear rilla of a man fat funky Frank

  37. obnoxious, rude, pushy, pompass self inflicted trumptard asswipes, GMO corncobs of the 5th kind..the moronic brother robbie is an impatient modern day luddite. the chum lee of the mississippi. cheap and mindless entertainment has obviously hit bottom in the abyss of idiocy. why i watch it you ask? why did you vote for trump i ask.. too much free time..
