What is ESTATE Jewelry

(lively music) – This is Jill Maurer
with Your Jewelry Minute, and today I’m answering the question what is estate jewelry? Sometimes when you go
into a jewelry store, you will see it separated. You’ll see new jewelry and estate jewelry, or sometimes in an antique store, you might see jewelry which
is called estate jewelry. So what is estate jewelry exactly? Estate jewelry is any jewelry that has previously been owned. It can be 100 years old, and it can be two minutes old. If you buy a piece of jewelry, and you decide that you don’t like it or you wanna return it
or you wanna upgrade it or you wanna do whatever, and you sell it, it is sold as estate jewelry no matter how long you have owned it. So that’s the definition
of estate jewelry. To be vintage, there’s not a
hard and fast rule on this, but to be vintage, it usually
needs to be 25 years old. You’ll hear people say 20
years old or 50 years old, but generally speaking,
around 25 years old and older would be considered vintage jewelry, and if it’s over 100 years, then it’s considered antique jewelry. Vintage jewelry and antique jewelry are both forms of estate jewelry, but it doesn’t have to be very old to be estate jewelry. I hope this answers your question. If you have a jewelry question for me, just let me know in the comments below. Until next time. (lively music)
